Kinetics Study of Paracetamol Production from Para-Aminophenol and Acetic Anhydride

In the last decade, Indonesia intensifies efforts to reduce pharmaceutical imports. One of initiatives is establishing a paracetamol production facility start operating in 2024. Kinetics study needed as basis design reactor. This investigated optimal temperature, reactant mole ratio, and agitation speed reactor for production. this study, aqueous solution para-aminophenol was reacted with acetic anhydride. The ratio anhydride varied 1:1, 1:1.2, 1:1.5, 1:2 while temperature 80 °C, 90 110 °C. However, due uncontrolled heat reaction limitation mixture’s boiling point, actual temperatures were 86 108 addition, 250 RPM 350 also studied.
